LEAD FACILITATOR REVIEW

Lead Facilitator was amazing! I loved that he treated each kid as an individual and worked with them to support and challenge their skills.

2021 SUMMER CAMP REVIEW

They are more in touch with nature and like teaching what they learned at home. They are more adventurous, and were inspired to do different things they were not used to.

Introduction

Our Summer Arts and Wellness Camp is designed to introduce children ages 5-12 to different art forms inside the studios and outside in nature! Exploring our local landscape, creek, and trails for inspiration and opportunities to discover new materials from nature in the summer! Our campers will engage with nature, art programming and learn wellness practices through our daily gratitude circle, art and mindfulness activities, reflection time, and team-building games.

Participants will learn how to use various mediums inside and outside, and decide on several projects to complete throughout the session both individually and as a group inside and outside the studios.

The Summer Arts & Wellness Camp is fun and educational as we explore another season at Soulspace and the Sage Street Mill! Students will leave with a renewed sense of community, connect with friends, and leave with a strong foundation in fun arts and wellness practices!

Campers will have daily activities and projects. The camp introduces students to the fun of experimentation in arts through drawing and painting, storybook making, making site-specific work in nature, and multi-media art through hands-on project-based learning, and nature exploration along our trails and outdoor space. During the summer camp, we go swimming and on hikes regularly. Our team of dedicated facilitators works with each camper individually and as a group to develop their wellness toolbox through various activities and techniques!

Campers can only choose to participate in full-time enrollment.

I graduated from Bennington College in 2001 with a degree focused on Architecture/Theory Film & Film theory. I'm a student in the 7th-grade class at the North Bennington school. I’m one of those people who always enjoy looking at art and I try to see art in everything, even if it’s not meant to be an art piece.

I love seeing the kids just find the things they enjoy and watching them doing what makes them happy, makes me excited to see what it will become! Especially in nature, it is super fun to see what they come up with and how they decide to make it their own.

I've spent my whole life here at The Mill. I love nature, arts, and insects, and I  love sharing my knowledge with people around me. I worked as an assistant art teacher at the local VSNB elementary school, and I have also been a counselor for last year's awesome Wellness Camp, I just finished my first year of college at Mass College of Arts and Design, and I'm really excited to be working here! I am really looking forward to exploring and showing the different trails and areas on the property and having a blast finding crayfish and dragonflies and making natural sculptures in the trails with the kids!

Yasmine Fundi

Creative Assistant

Summer Arts & Wellness Camp Counselor

Hi!, I'm Yasmine, a Congolese student pursuing a double concentration in Biology and Dance at Bennington College. With a passion for somatic dances and their relation to overall wellbeing, I was always fascinated to merge my interests in science/physiology and movement to promote holistic health practices. I'm beyond grateful to witness the beauty of this town and its people. By getting the opportunity to work with Sage Street Mill, I'm excited to apply my knowledge and skills to help foster a safe and supportive environment for young people. This environment could provide a space for children to explore their creativity and improve their emotional wellbeing through the arts.

Zoe Shaheen

I am honored to bring my voice and energy to

the Sage St Art & Wellness Camp this season. I am energized by the creative enthusiasm that children naturally embody and look forward to being an integral part of this community. As a yoga practitioner I choose movement as a tool for self-expression and as a kid's yoga facilitator I encourage children to be themselves. During our creative movement journey we will explore yoga movement and mindfulness through interactive play. My intention for each of us on this journey is to have fun as we all learn to love ourselves through the practice of yoga.

I began my yoga journey in Oregon and have taught folks from the farmer's market to the classroom. I earned my Yoga Teacher Training 200 Certification in Oregon in 2016 and completed the Rainbow Kids Yoga Program in 2018. Since moving to Vermont in 2020, I have expanded my expertise into birth work and am focused on supporting the Mother body through pregnancy and postpartum. My personal yoga practice has evolved over the years and continues to support me through the beautiful realities of motherhood and life.

Kathy Velon

Creative Assistant/Art Teacher

Mixed media skills gained over the years is my thing. I believe in the creative process is the magic of making arts. I love being inspired by other artists of all ages. Hue is my favorite art element I use often in my works.

RIT alumni ‘78, BFAA in Communication Design and BU alumni ‘96, MEd in Deaf Education.  My second language is ASL. In the past, I have had taught art in summer camps and with the preK-12 deaf and hard of hearing students. I am a part-time art instructor of the River Gallery School’s Ability Art Program in Brattleboro VT. My art works can be seen at Pangaea’s and McCullough’s Library in the village this summer ’23.

This summer at the Sage Street Mill is to have fun and explore in the most creative ways. Enjoy!
